Doctoral students
must complete a minimum of 28 credit hours of coursework beyond
the degree of Master of Science in Engineering (M.S.E.) or equivalent.
A minimum of 19
of these credits must be 700-level courses.In addition to these requirements,
a minimum of 18 credits of dissertation research (CEG 799) is also
required.
International
students whose native language is not English must demonstrate a satisfactory
command of the English language.
The doctoral student
must pass a written and oral qualifying exam at the end of the first
year, but not before 12 credit hours have been completed.
The doctoral student
also must pass a preliminary exam consisting of a written proposal
for the dissertation research followed by an oral examination.
The student is
advanced to candidacy for the Ph.D. upon completion of all course
work and approval of the dissertation research proposal.
All requirements
for the Ph.D. are met upon the satisfactory completion of the proposed
research, the submission of a satisfactory dissertation, and the successful
oral defense of the dissertation.
